Meet Our Organizers

Yvonne Calavan

Yvonne Calavan

Yvonne found her way to pickleball through friends and her former sport, competitive racquetball, which she played for 20 years. Upon retirement in 2020 she thought she’d give pickleball a try (and we’re glad she did!)

Yvonne can often be seen on the court with a clipboard in one hand and a pickleball paddle in the other. She loves using her organizing skills to help people access information they need. Those skills and her growing love of the game and community led her to co-found SeaShore Picklers. She wants more than anything (yes, even more than a win!) to create a welcoming environment for the SeaShore Picklers flock.

In her pre-pickleball life, she worked in finance and IT. Although she hasn’t completely given up those past lives, these days you’ll mostly find her organizing, playing, and socializing with the pickleball community she loves.

Kate Beck

Kate Beck

During the height (depths?) of Covid, Kate was sitting in her basement office praying for a way to get outside and do SOMETHING. ANYTHING. As she likes to put it, her prayers were answered when goddess proclaimed “Thou shalt have pickleball!”

That was in early 2022. Since then, Kate has played pickleball nearly every day. And because she’s a community organizer by nature, she immediately started organizing pickleball activities for women interested in competitive play.

With her wife V and their friend Yvonne who they met on the pickleball courts, Kate co-founded SeaShore Picklers, which has since grown into a thriving community of over 600 women.

When she’s not on the courts playing for fun, Kate–with her wife V–runs a new business, The Picklebecks. They offer lessons, pickleball retreats, other playing opportunities, and generally spread the pickleball joy.

Veronica Beck

Veronica Beck

V (as she prefers to be called) was introduced to pickleball when her wife Kate suddenly started spending all her time on the courts in early 2022. Not to be outdone, V picked up a paddle and has been playing and organizing SeaShore Picklers with Kate ever since.

In her other life, V works as a technical writer–and helps Kate with their Picklebecks business. She enjoys using her skills to document how to navigate the tools SeaShore Picklers uses to track events and scores.

V can often be found throwing a tennis ball for her large dog Snowy, catering to her two fussy cats, and preparing endless snacks for her two teenaged kids.

Laura Meyer

Laura started learning pickleball in spring of 2023 through a MeetUp group and was immediately hooked! Wanting to play 3-4 times per week, she quickly became an organizer for the group, scheduling games around the north and east side of Seattle. Eventually, word of mouth about the SeaShore Picklers reached Laura during a game at The Lodge, and she immediately signed up for the SeaShore Teams League in early 2024. Since then, Laura has been a regular player in the teams and ladder leagues, round robins, etc., while still organizing social games to connect others with the SeaShore Pickler community.

Off the court, Laura is a project manager for international public health programs/research and spends her downtime at home trying out new vegetarian recipes or spoiling her Maine Coon cat.
